You check off your habits, you look at your charts, and you're left with one question: what do I do with all this? A 62% success rate doesn't tell you why your reading is slipping, or what to change starting tomorrow. That's exactly the job of an AI habit coach, and it's arriving in Habits Hero as a companion: the mascot reads your data, understands what's working and what's stuck, then tells you what to do next.
The idea fits in one sentence: the algorithms do the math, the AI does the talking. The facts come from an engine that actually counts your wins, and the AI simply puts them into words with the right tone. Here's how it works, what's free, and what stays private.

Why use an AI coach to track your habits?
A classic habit tracker hands you raw data: widgets, curves, a report full of numbers. It's up to you to interpret them. And that's not what we do best at 11 pm after a long day.
A good coach turns those numbers into useful sentences:
- "Your reading has been slipping for two weeks, and it's always on Wednesdays."
- "On the days you meditate, your mood is better."
- "You have 9 things planned today when you usually finish 5: pick the 3 that matter."
These are precise observations drawn from your data, not generic advice like "be consistent". That's the difference between an app that records and an app that has your back.
The Habits Hero companion: the mascot becomes your coach
The companion is the app's mascot, with a single voice and emotions that come through its animations: it cheers after a great week, gets gentle when your mood is low, and teases you when you push back a to-do for the fourth time.
You'll find it at several moments of your day:
| Moment | What the companion does |
|---|---|
| The daily tip | The first time you open the app each day, it highlights what matters today: a streak to protect, a fragile habit, an overloaded day |
| The evening debrief | When you read your daily report, you get a recap of the day and an idea for tomorrow |
| The weekly review | On Sunday evening: "your week in 3 points", one win, one trend and one idea for the next week |
| The journal | Everything the companion has told you is kept in the "Companion" screen, so you can reread a tip you dismissed too quickly |
You can also rate each message with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and hide the ones that aren't useful to you.
What the companion can spot
Behind the messages, an analysis engine goes through your last 8 weeks of history looking for specific situations. Among other things, it recognizes:
- A streak in danger or a record within reach;
- A habit that's becoming fragile: its success rate is dropping compared to the previous period;
- A weaker day of the week than the others for a habit;
- A habit that takes too long: you often log it as lasting longer than planned, which may be a sign it's time to shorten it;
- A habit that's getting easier, a sign it's settling in, and that deserves a celebration;
- A link between a habit and your mood: "on the days you work out, your mood is better";
- An overloaded day compared to what you usually finish;
- A to-do pushed back again and again, or tasks often finished late;
- A comeback after a break, so you can ease back in without feeling guilty;
- Several days of low mood, where the companion switches to support mode and stops talking about performance.
The companion also takes into account how often each habit is scheduled: a workout planned three times a week isn't judged like a daily habit.
The algorithms do the math, the AI does the talking
This is what sets this companion apart from a simple chatbot plugged into your data.
- The engine decides the substance. It picks the most useful message and produces the numbers from your real data. The result is a first draft that's already accurate.
- The AI rephrases. It rewrites that text in the tone you've chosen, keeping the same idea and the same next step.
- The result is checked. Every number in the message must exist in your data. The AI can't make up a percentage, mention a habit unrelated to the message, or use guilt-tripping wording. If the check fails, you get the base text instead.
The result: you get the natural feel of a personal message with the reliability of a calculation. And the companion always answers: if the AI is unavailable or your monthly limit is reached, it falls back to the base text instead of going silent. The little reactions when you complete a task stay instant, with no AI involved.
Chat with your companion (Premium)
With Premium, you can also ask it your own questions: "Why do I always miss reading on Wednesdays?", "How do I keep up my workouts during exams?". To answer, the companion looks up your stats on demand: a habit's success rate, its breakdown by day of the week, how hard it felt, today's to-dos. It only accesses your data, never another user's.
It can also suggest a concrete action, like moving a habit's reminder to 7:30 am, changing its active days or creating a to-do. But it never changes anything on its own: the action is only applied when you tap the button to confirm it.
The companion stays in its lane. It talks about habits, routines, motivation and well-being, and politely declines everything else. It's neither a doctor nor a therapist: it doesn't diagnose and doesn't prescribe anything. If your messages show signs of distress, it responds with care and points you to appropriate helplines, such as 3114 in France.
A companion that suits you
Not everyone needs the same coach. You can choose its tone:
| Tone | For whom |
|---|---|
| Kind | To move forward gently (the default tone) |
| Energetic | For a boost and plenty of exclamation marks |
| Direct coach | For short sentences and a demanding framework, but never guilt-tripping |
| Zen | For a calm, composed tone |
| Funny | For light humor, never at your expense |
The funny tone steps aside on its own when your mood is low: on those days, the companion prefers gentleness.
The companion can also wear accessories you unlock as you progress: glasses at level 5, a cap with a 30-day streak, a bow tie at level 15.
What's free, what's Premium
The companion isn't a demo: its basic version is useful every day, no subscription needed.
| Free | Premium | |
|---|---|---|
| Daily tip, evening debrief, weekly review | Yes, written from text templates | Yes, personalized by the AI |
| Situation detection (streak in danger, fragile habit, mood…) | Yes | Yes |
| Companion journal | Yes | Yes |
| Choice of tone | No | Yes |
| Chat with the companion | No | Yes, with a monthly message limit |

In both cases, the substance comes from the same analysis engine: Premium adds personalization and chat.
Your data stays yours
A coach that reads your habits and your mood is only worth it if you can trust it. Here are the ground rules:
- AI is an option you turn on. Until you've given your consent in the companion settings, no data is sent to an AI provider. You can withdraw it at any time, and the companion then switches back to text templates.
- Nothing identifying is sent: not your email, not your username, not your IDs, not your free-text comments.
- Your habits are pseudonymized. They're sent as "H1", "H2"… along with their success rate. Their real names are only shared if you turn on the "Share my habit names" option, and they're put back in place after the message is written.
- The companion presents itself as an AI. Messages written by the AI are marked with a badge.
- Safeguards are in place: the content you write is treated as data, never as an instruction, and the companion's tools can only read your stats.
How to get started with your companion
- Open Habits Hero and create at least one habit: the companion needs data to help you.
- Open the Companion screen from the menu to find the daily tip, the weekly review and the journal.
- In the optional "Why this habit?" and "When or after what?" fields, write down your intention and your trigger: it helps your companion get to know you better.
- With Premium, turn on AI in the companion settings, pick its tone and start your first chat.
The first personalized tips arrive after a few days of use: the richer your history, the more precise the insights.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI habit coach?
It's an assistant that analyzes your habit tracking (successes, days, mood, perceived difficulty) to give you personalized advice, instead of leaving you to interpret your charts on your own. In Habits Hero, it takes the form of the companion.
Is the Habits Hero companion free?
Its basic version, with the daily tip, the evening debrief, the weekly review and the journal, is free. AI personalization, choice of tone and chat are reserved for Premium.
Can the AI make up numbers or give false advice?
The numbers come from a calculation engine, not from the AI. Every number in an AI-written message is checked against your data, and if the check fails, you get the base text instead.
Is my data sent to an AI without my consent?
No. AI analysis requires your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Your email, username and comments are never sent, and your habit names are only shared if you choose to.
Can the companion change my habits without asking me?
No. It can suggest an action, like changing a reminder's time, but it only applies if you confirm it.
Does the companion replace a healthcare professional?
No. It doesn't diagnose and doesn't give medical advice. If you're going through a tough time, it encourages you to talk to someone close to you or to a professional.
Let your companion help you move forward
Tracking your habits is useful. Understanding why some stick and others don't is what really makes you progress. With the companion, Habits Hero doesn't just count anymore: it explains, cheers you on and tells you what to do next.
